Summary:

In 1937, as part of her "Seeing Sound" series of animations, Mary Ellen Bute took a geometric sculpture by American artist Rutherford Boyd as her subject. This translucent art work encompassed the complexity of nature in its parabolic form. The last of Bute's experimental animations to be made in black and white, Parabola is a spectral dance of curve and contour, synched using a precise mathematical system to an excerpt from composer Darius Milhaud's ballet La Creation du monde.
